1. I got our new (new to us), FREE (latest in a long line of free vehicles, actually) minivan registered, title transferred, and insured today. We’ve been without a car for 6 months, and it’s been awesome. And now I need to have a vehicle for working over the summer, and here one is, and it runs, yeehaw. That went well because my dad is a minister of procurement, and I followed through on getting it and getting is set up, and because I was an auto mechanic in a former life, I (and my dad) were able to get it running where previously it hadn’t been.
2. I got to give a ride to a guy today who had just missed his bus. We ended up talking for a half an hour after we got to his destination. He has a glass eye, so he can’t see his right field, and he lacks depth perception. He is on 7 or 8 medications, and has various side effects from them such as diskinesia. His wife left him for another man, and he said he can’t blame her. He has two 20ish year old children, and is 58 years old, and has been married for 25 years. He’s the same age as my dad. He had a spinal abcess and a brain abcess and was in a nursing home with IV antibugs for a year some 6 or 7 years ago. Three days ago he was crossing an alley on his bike and a car pulled out and hit him, shoving his bicycle handlebars into his face and leaving a nasty bruise. This guy said to me that he never used to think about killing himself, but in the last few months the idea has occurred to him. But he would never do it, he said, because it’s against God’s will.
So anyway, the blessing was this. He was a man whose body and mind have been twisted and broken in obvious, amazingly awful ways, and yet he embodied such an enormous beauty in the middle of all that. I don’t understand this. But I almost wept over it a couple times while he was talking. That went well because I offered him a ride, and he said yes, and he was willing to talk, and I was willing to listen.
3. I finished my last final (well, the last one that counts at all) today, and after one irrelevant final tomorrow, I am free for the summer. Yippee. My brain gets to rest. That went well because I stuck to it, and stuck to it, and …. AND because my unbelievably amazing wife is so supportive. I simply could *not* be doing this without her love and support.
